Throughout the filming of Eclipse, we all heard references, from various stars, to the fight training that was going on among the cast in preparation for the climactic ending of the penultimate novel/movie of the fantastic Twilight Saga. This training was conducted in Vancover by local trainer Nathan Mellalieu, and he had the pleasure of working with our own Robert Pattinson. According to Mellalieu, the feeling was mutual as far as Rob was concerned because he loved the martial arts stuff, and he was quite talented at that. Mellalieu says that Rob has got really great hand speed.

VANCOUVER – Vampires and werewolves have different fitness needs, says local trainer Nathan Mellalieu.

“Vampires are designed to be elegant, I think,” says Mellalieu, owner of Studeo 55, where he says he and his staff worked out about 15 of the cast of Eclipse, the latest in the Twilight series to be filmed in Vancouver.

The second film in the teenage vampire saga, New Moon, opens in theatres on Thursday.

“Werewolves are a little more rugged,” Mellalieu says. “They’re a little brawnier, a little bit bigger, a little more raw.”

In addition to getting characters looking buff — including Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson,) Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene) — it was important to get them ready for action, he says. (more)

The Twilight Saga’s second chapter, New Moon, focuses on Robert Pattinson’s vampire character, Edward Cullen, leaving Bella and breaking her heart, which sends her into a spiraling depression from which she feels she can’t possibly escape with her life. Film.com’s Cole Haddon interviewed Rob to discuss his feelings on why Edward left Bella, why he relates to Edward so well, and to discuss the movie and his sudden fame.

New Moon, the second chapter of The Twilight Saga, begins with every teen girl’s favorite vampire, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), breaking his beloved Bella’s heart, sending her on a downward spiral she only narrowly survives. I sat down with Pattinson recently to discuss the movie, sudden fame, and why he relates so well to Edward.

Cole Haddon: In New Moon, Edward Cullen, after having personally exiled himself from Bella’s life, spends most of the story … well, not in it. Except for visions Bella (Kristen Stewart) has, that is. Did that leave you feeling disconnected from your cast mates at all?

Robert Pattinson: Those scenes, [the visions], were the hardest scenes. They weren’t really at the time, but after I saw the first cut of the movie, [the filmmakers] changed them quite a bit in the editing room and with ADR. It’s not [technically] Edward [either]. It’s a manifestation of Bella’s loneliness and desperation. As for being alone, I’ve always felt a little bit aloof as the character, throughout the whole series. I think that’s how he is, so I didn’t feel any different. (more)

Earlier this month we reported that STV were giving fans a chance to ask Robert Pattinson their burning questions, which were in turn going to be asked by Grant Lauchlan in his interview with Rob on Monday, November 16th. The interview has now been made available and the extended version can be viewed here.

Rob talked about a number of subjects, including what his family thinks of his newfound stardom, and how co-star Taylor Lautner is giving him a run for his money.

He also spoke of the fan adulation that’s greeted him, and explained what his strangest experience yet was: “A bit of blood-letting a while ago, girls coming up having freshly cut themselves, saying ‘I’ve literally got blood dripping and I want you to suck it.’

“It’s happened a few times,” he added. “I think people are getting a little bit confused about the whole story that you’ve got seven-year-old girls asking for you to kill them, and so it was like ‘I just want to die with you.’ It’s like, um, yeah, call the publicity department!”

Not only that, but Rob went into greater detail about the journey of his character Edward Cullen in New Moon, and explained the dividing line between the vampire acting out of selflessness for Bella Swan – or just thinking about himself.

And finally Rob also found the time to answer some fan questions – and say hello to some very special STV viewers!

A new interview with Robert Pattinson from the Cannes Festival has just been released. It was taken by Clarin, an Argentinian newspaper, and we are pleased to bring you the translation, thanks to TwilightPoison. In this interview Rob talks a bit more about his music, and even reveals that he has been writing some music for a movie, but that unfortunately for fans, he won’t be the one singing it. Edward has a much smaller role in New Moon. How much was this changed for the movie?
It didn’t change that much. Or maybe it did. There’s a sort of new image of me that Bella sees, or creates. You’d think she went mad. She thinks she has visions. I’m not really that much in those scenes. Those scenes are mixed with memories of her, and fantasies.

The tension for preserving the virginity is a very important subject in the saga.
In many ways it is. I think this was done because Stephenie loves that kind of tension; having an unfullfilled desire the whole time, that’s the best kind of love. Makes everything more dramatic, romantic, tragic. People can see it in many different ways. (more…)
